Do you want Chestnut, Maple, Warmth, Warm Radiance, etc? You can pick any color on the whole site. ;) Just let me know. Thanks, Lisa =)

OH I just made some Clear Radiance balms too. Very pretty! It's just a subtle shimmery pink on the lips.

i really liked the eyebrow stencil and was amazed at how much it improved my look. i even got brave and did my daughter. she loved it. it is much easier to do it on someone else. at least the coloring in part so you can make sure they're even. if she would have felt comfortable plucking them herself i would have gladly let her do that part.

EEEK...I didn't even think about the "unmarrying" part! I'm glad you mentioned it. I'll be sure to try and take the mascara off, as much as I can, first. Not real thrilled about ripping it off my eyelid, but even less thrilled about the fakies and my lashes being fused together with mascara when I rip it off. KWIM?

tattoos and piercings

2008-04-26 22:48:21

donna,

wow...$70 for a 6x6 tattoo? that is a GREAT price. at least around here. when i got my first tattoo we lived in a town that didn't have anything but a hardee's and a subway. the only tattoo artist in a 100 mile radius was 25 miles away so he could by with charging high prices because he had no competition.

when i got my second one it was were we live now. there is quite a bit of competition so you can get a lower price. but, you're right, it is SOOOOOO important to thoroughly check out a tattoo artist or shop's reputation.

Re: Rhonda . . . help

2008-04-26 18:52:01

Hi Rhonda.
I actually just received a set of brushes from Lisa the other day and I
LOVE them. They are so wonderfully soft. I really like the kabuki brush
for applying my foundation & finishing powders and the carrying case of
brushes is convenient to stick in my purse if I should need any touch
ups while I'm at work.
I also want to rave about UD's eye primer potion. It works great for
me. Whenever I would apply eye shadow, it'd usually end up all creased
in the middle of my lid by the time mid-morning came long. It got so I
just hated wearing shadow. But with the primer (and I put a bit of
finishing powder on at the end as well) it doesn't crease at all during
the day. Lisa was right on with recommendation of this product to me.

tattoos and piercings

2008-04-26 04:43:41

Yes, tattoos can get pricey. The artist I go to (after checking him out thoroughly) does not charge extra for color. LOL...he has a low opinion of some of the tattoo shops in town that do. He does great grey scale work too. The one on my shoulder (back) is about 6"x6". It was two designs that he merged into one, and then destroyed the copies and signed and gave me the print. I know I have the only one like this. It is fully colored. (I have a pic somewhere, I'll have to look!). BTW...red ink hurts more than the others, they have to go deeper in the skin for it to not fade, or so he said. For that one, he chaged me $70, I think. For the band of flowers/leaves around my ankle, fully colored as well, it was $50. So, it is or can be a bit pricey, and it is not for everyone. I would like to get a fairy and a hummingbird too, or maybe a little dragon if I can find a picture I like.

Donna
Rhonda Powell <rhonda_k_powell@...

the other thing about tattoos vs piercings is that tattoos can be quite expensive. the huge dragon drawing made me think of that. for my little bitty 2 inch high marvin the martian it took about an hour (i think - i'm fuzzy on this) but it cost about $80. some of the bigger ones....like across the entire shoulder area on your back can be hundreds of dollars. it also depends on if you add color...color costs a lot more.

i considered getting another tattoo a month or so ago and realized the timing was bad. at the time i was on a blood thinner after having blood clots on my lungs last fall so that would have been pretty darn stupid of me. but i'm off the blood thinner now and i'm considering it.

i don't know where i'd get one and i don't even know what of. when i got my first tattoo my husband was grumbling to the tattoo artist about me getting one in the first place and the guy said that he didn't know anyone who had just one tattoo. once you get one you find yourself wanting more. it is true.

Re: Bliss....

Hi Missi!
Last Sept 27 they removed two hernieated and ruptured discs, replaced
them with metal cages, took a bone graft form my pelvis and added in
a bone growth stimulator. Then they fused the lower three vertebrae
together. My incision just didn't want to heal. In November put they
put a wound vac on it and it was on until mid January. I had tunnels
of infeciton that kept popping up. It was awful! The last one opened
up 3 weeks ago and wouldn't you know, it had a staph infection in it.
So I'm back on clindamycin for a whole month.
I've had a lot of pain in my left hip since surgery and the doctor is
going to look into that after the incision is finally healed. It's
almost there, though. I'll be glad when it's over.

geez, i'm such a loser. okay, i HONESTLY didn't plan on buying anything at the BE store when I go.....BUT.....now that i know i'm going i'm looking online and trying to plan on what to buy. guess it is a really good thing my husband is going with me. he will definitely rein me in. :-)

buying the color samples from lisa makes total sense because you can have so much fun with a variety of colors at a great price that you could never afford if you bought the full size containers. my question is, what types of things do you guys think i should try to buy full size of while i'm there? or brushes, other products, etc.

i'm thinking foundation would make sense once they help me figure out the best color/colors for me. i'm thinking of the faux tan. i bought a compact from ebay not thinking i'd be going to a BE store anytime soon.

so, help me guys!! what should i consider buying that i couldn't get at a reasonable price off ebay or anywhere else?

thanks.

tattoos and piercings

With piercings it's not too expensive if you stick to
your ears.
A friend did her nose twice, but I couldn't do it.. I
did 8 of my own piercings and had the other 4 done
professionally.
Sally Beauty Supply use to sell piercing kits. (I
don't know if they still do) I did my daughter's when
she was 3. I was traumatized, she wasn't.=0) She was a
total trooper.
All you did was line it up to where you wanted the
earring to go and then click. It shot the earring into
your ear and then the pieces fell off from around it.
Worked great. Sure beats just using a stud and
pressure.

re: be makeovers

2008-04-22 13:25:32

okay, it appears as if we are scheduled for makeover at the BE at woodfield mall this saturday. how crazy am i? i'm leaving at 6 am to drive four to four and a half hours to get a makeover and see some makeup colors. then i'm going to eat lunch and drive four hours back home.

do i see signs of a real BE addict? do i need to stand up and say, "my name is rhonda and i am a BE addict?!"

my hubby is going along, however, i think that is a cost saving measure on his part. he realizes if he doesn't go for the ride it make cost him more in the wallet. LOL

i went ahead and scheduled the makeovers so i don't have to worry about getting there and them being too busy. i'll also have to remember to take a notepad with me to write down all the colors that i like after i see them in person.

my 16 year old is so into makeup. however, she doesn't have a job and i'm starting to grow tired of the mom i want this routine. we'll just check out a foundation color for my 12 year old and be done with her or she'll whine that we're torturing her. :-)

Rhonda, the BE store here does makeovers on a walk-in basis. You may have a wait a few minutes until someone else is done, but they can do two at a time. But the store here is not as busy as some in the country, so you may want to call and ask just to be sure.

Donna
Rhonda Powell <rhonda_k_powell@...

manda....honestly, i really don't want to buy any of the products there. i just want to get the makeover so i can have someone who knows what they're doing help me figure out what color/s is right for me. why buy a full thing when i can buy smaller quantities from lisa at such a great price?! the samples allow for so much more playing around. :-)

okay, i have to say my husband and i have come to a compromise about chicago this weekend. did i mention i have learned how to pout pretty good? *slaps hand - bad rhonda*

if i can do the trip in one day and not have to stay overnight then he is not so opposed to it. it can be done. so, now i have to call the BE store there bright and early and get more information about the makeovers. does anyone in the group know if you have to schedule these in advance or do they do them on a walk-in basis? realistically, i'd buy something if only to be courteous and thankful for the makeover. but, i would buy something that lisa doesn't carry. :-)

i'd take my girls and my hubby. so, both my girls could have something done too. my 16 year old is so willing to wear makeup so she would want a regular makeover too. my 12 year old isn't interested in makeup at all but i would at least want to figure out what foundation color to use for her. their skin tone is so much darker than mine and i'm having enough trouble figuring my own colors out! and, with hubby with me, trust me, he'll keep me in check even if i did get tempted to buy lots of stuff.

but, i will go to sephora's and buy some of the primer potion.

I used to draw tattoos for people. I drew a tattoo for a girl I knew for her bf. A huge Chinese dragon...and one for a coworker, a dagger plunged into the top of a bleeding heart, they were both (IMHumbleO) quite cool.

The main reason I want to get a tattoo is to symbolize what I have
been through in the past. I saw one once of an angel with broken
wings that was flying. I thought it was a good one to represent my
life.

i'm so glad to hear that the lip balm stuff came in. i was just thinking about that yesterday. i'm anxious to try it. i'm working on my next order so i'll have to be sure to wait and see what you're going to have as far as lip balms before i place it. no rush, but i hate to miss it. *ha* like me needing to order again would be a bad thing.

manda....honestly, i really don't want to buy any of the products there. i just want to get the makeover so i can have someone who knows what they're doing help me figure out what color/s is right for me. why buy a full thing when i can buy smaller quantities from lisa at such a great price?! the samples allow for so much more playing around. :-)

okay, i have to say my husband and i have come to a compromise about chicago this weekend. did i mention i have learned how to pout pretty good? *slaps hand - bad rhonda*

if i can do the trip in one day and not have to stay overnight then he is not so opposed to it. it can be done. so, now i have to call the BE store there bright and early and get more information about the makeovers. does anyone in the group know if you have to schedule these in advance or do they do them on a walk-in basis? realistically, i'd buy something if only to be courteous and thankful for the makeover. but, i would buy something that lisa doesn't carry. :-)

i'd take my girls and my hubby. so, both my girls could have something done too. my 16 year old is so willing to wear makeup so she would want a regular makeover too. my 12 year old isn't interested in makeup at all but i would at least want to figure out what foundation color to use for her. their skin tone is so much darker than mine and i'm having enough trouble figuring my own colors out! and, with hubby with me, trust me, he'll keep me in check even if i did get tempted to buy lots of stuff.

but, i will go to sephora's and buy some of the primer potion.

they say that your ankle is one of the places that hurts the worst to get a tattoo because you have no fat there. the tattoo guys who did me said that bsically you can feel the needle with the ink against the bone and it does hurt.

rhonda
I recently got a little wild (for me) and went crazy with ear piercing. I had two holes in each ear and now have six in one and four in the other. I would love to get them going down my entire ear. Of course my husband just hates them and my kids think I am nuts. If I had the shape I would also love to have my belly button pierced.

I also want a tattoo. My daughters nickname is Panda, so I would love to get a small panda bear on my shoulder or my ankle. And since my son really doesn't have a nickname, I was thinking of letting him pick out something for me to get also. That way I would always have my children with me. My husband has "forbidden" me to get any, but I keep telling him its my body, my choice. I just need to work up the courage to actually go and have it done. Janis

Donna Conner <angel91805@...

Woo Hoo...new things to play with!!! I love the tapered blush brush and the wet dry brush! Though the wet dry brush is eerily similar to the one end of the double ended precision brush! I'm loving the eye shadows...one is a light pinky/peachy glimpse. I foiled that one (contact solution does not work well...I can't find the visine!). The other one is a shadow...a mauvy purple. The blush is nice...sort of a pinky coral...can you tell I SUCK describing colors?? I only did half of my face after taking a shower, and there was no foundation or bisque or primer or anything. Hubby says the side with the new colors...made my face look more natural (as opposed to my "natural" skin...he got thumped!) and thinner! Woo Hoo...works for me. Now I could get this color on my hips and thighs! ROFL! This weekend I have GOT to play with the fake eyelashes....ROFL! I've never tried falsies before! The lipliner...can do without it. It's beige...can't hardly see it. The lipgloss,
I like, but hubby says blech. It is a brown, and that isn't going well with me. But, the thing I like the most...believe it or not...is the brushless mascara! Now...that will take some getting used to. I didn't blink on it, but put it on as normal. Now...I do have fairly long eyelashes...no complaints here. But this mascara, made these puppies curl right on up there...I swear the tips of my eyelashes are almost at my eyebrow! Now just to see how long it stays on, if it smudges or flakes, etc. I imagine these colors aren't for everyone...but I thinks me likes 'em!

Maybe I'm nuts, but I really think mine are truer. I can't believe how dark Sorbet looks in their picture. Their Fling picture is pretty close, but the other two mine are definitely more true to color in my opinion. All of my pictures will always show more sparkle b/c they are taken in sunlight. :)

On the Escape collection, my picture were taken kind of late in the day so they could be better. Take Me is truer on the QVC site, but Adventure shadow is more true on my site. The Escape blush is sort of in-b/w my pic and theirs. Hope this helps you decide! Lisa =)

re: more about chicago

2008-04-15 15:54:49

sorry, i forgot to post this in the last message.

i actually have a map that includes this area on it (where the hotel is). and, it is about 20 miles from downtown if we wanted to go there. from what i understand the best way to go if you're wanting to go downtown is to take the train. the blue line runs near Country Inn & Suites.

re: hotel rooms for chicago

2008-04-15 04:46:06

doing some checking and off the hotel websites i'm finding prices around $100 a night. These are ones within five miles of the mall. The best way to go if we end up in Chicago is to go to a hotel that caters to business travelers. They will have more openings on the weekends and lower their rates then where other mainstream hotels raise their rates on the weekend.

If a hotel's own website is giving $100 we should be able to do priceline and get something for less, say around $75 a night.

here's what i found:

Country Inn & Suites (these are nice and comfortable - very clean). On Expedia I'm getting a quote for our dates (8/12-8/14) of $86 per night for a room with two queen beds. This hotel is five miles from the mall. It got really great reviews from the people who left information. It mentions a shuttle to the airport and "area" businesses. Not sure if the mall is included.

The REALLY nice thing about Expedia is that you can book a reservation and still have the option to cancel it if necessary. With Priceline you're locked in. So, if we wanted to book something now to make sure we have something at a decent price then we can and not have to worry if we need to cancel for any reason.

Here's the page I'm looking at. You'll find a link with pictures, descriptions, etc. here.

incredible! A drop on your fingertips and then rubbed into your
temples really helps.
My mother is a massage therapist and a dr of naturopathy. We
affectionately call her the Witch Doctor. But she has helped me out
in more ways than one with her homeopathic remedies. She does the
Bach Flower Essence stuff, as well as herbal remedies. She was the
one who put me on Noni juice to help me kick start the healing
process when my incision stopped healing. And what do you know...it
worked. She's one smart old bird. She does La Stone hot stone
massage, thai massage, Lomi Lomi, and then the standard swedish and
deep tissue. She's also a Reiki Master and has some of the most
incredible healing energy I have ever felt from one person. One of
her friends swears that I have it, too, but I just haven't tapped
into it yet. I guess it's the whole Field of Dreams thing, when I'm
ready it will come.
Enjoy your massage! I'd kill for one today!

the walkway in the aquarium really isn't that bad. i'm clostrafobic too and it just is like a regular hallway width. the thing is so light that it doesn't feel like you're being buried alive or anything. :-)

the belly button thing doesn't sound odd at all. the day i turned 33 i went and got a tattoo. i had never in my life considered getting a tattoo until a former coworker told a story about when she worked in an emergency room as a nurse. she said all bodies ultimately look alike when they're dead and she wanted her's to look different and say something about who she is. so, she and her daughter designed matching tattoos and both got them. that story started sinking in and i decided to get the tattoo. man, my husband was ticked off!! he thinks they're tacky. however, he insisted on going to the tattoo place with me. i think he wanted it to hurt real bad so i'd learn my lesson but it really didn't. i got a teddy bear on my rear end. of course, i have lots of extra padding so that helped with the pain. [INLINE] anyway, last year i got the urge to get another one, so now i have one on each cheek. my second one is marvin the martian. nobody generally sees them but me and the
hubby so it isn't a huge deal. just something a little wild i decided to do for me.

bliss,

the massage was great. my massage therapist also does ear candling and said that it helps a lot with sinus pressure. i think i may try that next week. i thought $35 for a 45 minute session didn't sound bad.
Bliss & Henry <bliss_n_henry@...

Rhonda,
Origins makes a product called Peace of Mind that I use when my
sinuses start making my head feel like it's in a vice...and not in a
good way. It's got lavendar and peppermint in it and it is
Bliss

Wanna plan a trip together??

2008-04-08 20:41:11

Ok Ladies! I know we've discussed getting together on different occasions. Well our wonderful Mich M just shared this info with me . . .

Leslie B is going to at the Mall of America July 23-24th and at Woodfield Mall in Chicago August 13-14th.

Do you want to plan a trip? Here's some info on what they provide at events like this . . .

Discover i.d. bareMinerals and learn new beauty tips for flawless application when you receive a complete color consultation by a Bare Escentuals National Makeup Artist or regional team member.

At each personal appearance noted below, Leslie will be present on Saturdays, from 12 - 3 pm. Each appearance will include:
* Champagne and hors d'oeuvres reception
* Door prizes
* Gifts with purchase
* Raffle prizes

You can begin scheduling the color consultations 4 weeks in advance. Is anyone seriously interested? We could share hotel rooms and have a ball!!! I'll set up a poll for those interested so we can vote on which event would be better. How's that sound? Lisa =)

:::shudder:::: belly button piercing....I don't know. I just don't think I could do it. A cowork had it done a few years ago and it took 6 months to heal! She had to wear those hip hugger pants (ok...she DID have the figure for it), where no fabric would rub on her belly button. I just don't think I could do it. Tattoos are as a brave as I'll go. Hehehe...I have two now and want one maybe two more...ahahaha. But they can all be hidden. And I was thinking, I may try some bisque/foundation to see if I could cover one up if I needed to. ROFL!

Yup...completely off topic, but I don't mind!

Hugs,

Donna
Mich <bbabmontret@...

..... I know, it's insane at my age, but when my DH
is gone on his trip in May, I'm going to get my belly
button pierced. I've always wanted to do it but never
had the shape. I'm still leaps and bounds from where I
want to be, but I'm going to do it anyway.
It'll give me 2 weeks to start to heal, and to get
used to it before he sees it and faints. LOL!!
Actually, I think he'll just crack up and shake his
head. :0)

Cute Worries From The 50's

These are hilarious! I highlighted my favs!

If only we had these worries again!

Hugs to All~Missi

Comments made in the year 1957:

"I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the
way they are, it's going
to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for
$20."
"Have you seen the new cars coming out next year?
It won't be long before
$2000 will only buy a used one."
"If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to
quit. A quarter a pack
is ridiculous."
"Did you hear the post office is thinking about
charging a dime just to
mail a letter?"
"If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will
be able to hire outside
help at the store."
"When I first started driving, who would have
thought gas would someday
cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off
leaving the car in the
garage."
"Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair
cuts make it impossible to
stay groomed. Next thing you know, boy! s will be
wearing their hair as long
as the
girls."
"I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more.
Ever since they let
Clark Gable get by with saying 'damn' in 'Gone With
The Wind,' it seems
every new
movie has either "hell" or "damn" in it.
"I read the other day where some scientist thinks
it's possible to put a
man on the moon by the end of the century. They
even have some fellows they
call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas."
"Did you see where some baseball player just signed
a contract for $75,000
a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise
me if someday they'll be
making more than the president."
"I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen
appliances would be
electric. They are even making electric typewriters
now."
"It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see
where a few married women
are having to work to make ends meet."
"It won't be long before young couples are going
to have to hire someone
to watch their kids so they can both work."
